I picked up 2 of these caned back
armchairs at an estate sale last
is really outdated and while the dark wood is nice,
it doesn’t fit in with the color scheme in our home.
So, I got out my handy dandy can of heirloom

white spray paint and sprayed away!
cotton feed and grain sacks.
I am very happy with how they turned out.
because you know I love ruffles!

The fun thing about these is the gorgeous colors
and the mix and match feed sacks.
I made the seat of this one from an old rice bag.
I think since they are dining room chairs it is appropriate
that they are made out of something related to food!

The other one I used a heavier Bemis sack as the seat,
complete with a few rust spots!

Here is a close up of the Rice sack seat.
I love the crown and the fact that it says Regal
is perfect since it is a head of the table chair!

I mixed up about 4 different sacks to make the ruffles.
This one has a large rose on it with some fun wording.
I figured the more grain sacks I used, the more eclectic it would look.

These look great. Love the fact that you can switch the seat cushions to match the occasion. I've been trying to make ruffles but I'm not really sure what I'm doing – any tips?

Cute, Cute, Cute…Love the ruffles made out of the grain sacks with all their detail and the chairs, what a transformation with the spray paint. Where do you find the spray paint?
"Sack" and "pretty" are not 2 words I would usually put together but in this case I'll make an exception, your sacks look sooo pretty!

Hello Melaine,
You must have changed your about me because I do not recall seeing that you have a yellow lab named Hunter. I cracked up because I do too. He was one of my fosters but I fell in love and adopted him. He is 9 years old (I think – give or take a year).
The chairs look fabulous! I love the ruffles. You did a fantastic job!

I really enjoyed reading about your blog on Dreamy Whites today? I have a few questions for you- where do you buy your grain sacks, what color did you use for the white on the chairs, and what color did you paint your planking on the living room walls. We are about to paint some dark paneling and I want it white, but not too glaring. I like that yours looks kind of creamy, but still not a color or tan or anything. Anyway, thanks!
I got one of those exact chairs the other day at GoodWill for $3.99, plus 25% off due to military appreciation day. Mine was a buttery yellow and stained, though and NOTHING a lil spray paint and fabric didn't change.
Fabulous chair re-do!!
LOVE LOVE LOVE!!! Oh pretty please make some more and put them in your store for me to buy!
