Ingredients
1 (1 pound) loaf French bread, cut diagonally in 1 inch slices
8 eggs
2 cups milk
1 1/2 cups half-and-half cream
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
3/4 cup butter
1 1/3 cups brown sugar
3 tablespoons light corn syrup
Directions
Butter a 9×13 inch baking dish. Arrange the slices of bread in the bottom. In a large bowl, beat together eggs, milk, cream, vanilla and cinnamon. Pour over bread slices, cover, and refrigerate overnight.
The next morning, preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). In a small saucepan, combine butter, brown sugar and corn syrup; heat until bubbling. Pour over bread and egg mixture.
Bake in preheated oven, uncovered, for 40 minutes.
* Here is what I do differently.
I dip the bread instead of “pouring the egg mixture over the bread”
and I sprinkle each layer with cinnamon. I also turn the whole thing over {I just use a spatula and turn each stack one at a time} after it’s been soaking for a couple of hours. Finally I just buy San Francisco sliced french bread instead of cutting the bread myself and I use the biggest lasagna pan I have.
Eat your hearts out.
xoxo
p.s. yes I know I was MIA yesterday.

We make this every year when my quilt group goes on retreat to the mountains. One of the gals is a little, tiny thing. We have to pull her head out of the pan…
YUM! And what are we calling this naughty little breakfast? By the way, I am already in my big girl jeans 😉
we have been doing this for 6 years now… we use reular cheap bread and some eggnog too… this is a must in our house 😉

This sounds divine! I might consider adding crunched-up corn flakes; our Shoals Marriott Spa makes something similar. I'm inspired by your blog. I'm a newbie but it seems we have a similar vibe!
I make a similar recipe as well; stuffed french toast. The difference is my recipe includes fried apples and I top it off with some freshly whipped cream. (Now you now why I only make it a few times a year!)
Your birthday bash looked like fun! Thanks for the new recipes to add to our list of cocktails.
I like this a lot. Thank you for sharing. I'm always looking for upcycles like this. In the end, you don't know it was a shipping pallet to begin with!
