I recently posted these DIY vinyl record ruffled bowls on my Instagram and everyone went nuts.
It quite possibly might be the easiest project I have ever made, and the final result is so beautiful!
I thought I would make a post to show you all how to make them too, as they are so fun!
This would be a great project for a girls craft night, or just something fun to do with your family.
I found the records at our local Goodwill for 99 cents each, and besides the spray paint which you may already have, that is all they cost!
Please pin these images so everyone can see how easy it is to make these DIY vinyl record ruffled bowls!
MATERIAL LIST:
Vinyl records {I found some on Amazon here} Basically the same price as Goodwill!
Spray paint, I used this one and this one.
Oven.
Oven safe bowls of varying sizes.
Cookie sheet.
INSTRUCTIONS:
Preheat your oven to the lowest setting. On mine that is “warm”
You don’t want it to be hotter than 200 degrees.
Place an oven safe bowl upside down on a cookie sheet, then slide the whole thing in the oven.
Place your vinyl record centered on top of bowl and close the oven door.
Watch it carefully and as soon as the edges start to droop, pull the whole thing out with hot pads.
Bad picture, but you get the idea.
*NOTE* You will want to move quickly on this next step as the record will harden very quickly once taken out of the oven.
Flip your bowl right side up on the counter and place your soft record inside the bowl pushing down on the bottom.
Alternatively you can shape it without a bowl just using your hands.
I did it both ways and I liked the results for both but you can manipulate it a bit better with your hands.
This will create the ruffled effect around the edges.
Once the record cools which like I said is very fast, you can remove it.
Finally, add 3-4 light coats of your favorite spray paint in a well ventilated area to all sides,
Let dry and display!
Depending on the shape and size of the bowl you use in your oven and how “soft” you let the record get will determine the final shape and size of your finished product.
It is fun to experiment with different size bowls as they all come out so unique!
Side note-this candle is my new favorite!
I wouldn’t use these for food although I did serve shelled pistachios out of one and survived.
Also should note that it was brought to my attention that the chemicals from the records could create toxic fumes in your home/oven.
Again, I didn’t smell anything and I survived this project, just putting that out there as food for thought.
I hope you have fun making these DIY vinyl record ruffled bowls for under $1.00!

I wonder how it would come out if you ‘baked’ it in the sun. Then no worries of the toxins in your house.

I bet you totally could! Great idea!
