Revamping Our Basement: A Cozy Fall Makeover You’ll Love!
Welcome to the big reveal of our newly revamped basement! We’ve transformed this space into a cozy, fall-inspired haven that you’ll want to recreate in your own home. The Power of Color Drenching
One of the standout features of our basement makeover is the color drenching technique we used. Color drenching involves painting every surface in a single color—walls, ceilings, and even trim—to create a unified and enveloping space. We chose Sherwin Williams Rock Bottom, a rich, deep hue that enhances the room’s depth and makes it feel larger and more intimate all at once. The result is a room that feels cozy and inviting, with a seamless look that draws you in.
Before & After: The Transformation

The basement was functional but lacked character. The space had outdated cubbies, mismatched decor, and felt somewhat disconnected. The original wall color didn’t help in making the room feel inviting or cohesive.
After:
Our makeover turned the basement into a fall-inspired retreat. Here’s what we did:
- Walls and Ceiling: Everything was painted in Sherwin Williams Rock Bottom. The color drenching effect makes the space appear larger and more cohesive, while the deep hue adds warmth and coziness.
- Reading Nook: We revamped the existing built-in reading nook by adding shelves, covering the bench seat with a nubby fabric, and topping it off with new fall pillows. The nook is now a perfect spot for reading, relaxing, or simply enjoying the season.
- Cubbies and Wood Planks: We closed off the old cubbies to simplify the look and kept the natural wood planks on the wall, which add texture and warmth. The old sconces were removed to streamline the space.
- Flooring: The floor was painted in Sherwin Williams Sandstone, offering a soft contrast to the darker walls. We added cozy, washable rugs by Pure Cozy. The beautiful patterns and soft texture are perfect for fall and year round.
- DIY Table: We repurposed a thrifted table by replacing the wood top with a marble one and spray painting the base black. This DIY project turned a simple table into a chic and functional centerpiece for the nook without breaking the bank.
- Sideboard: For additional storage and a place to display decor, we added a sideboard. It’s perfect for holding vases, knick-knacks, and seasonal decorations like fall stems, gourds, and a beautiful lamp that adds a warm glow to the space.
- Wall Art: We created a DIY wall art canvas that we can change out seasonally. It’s a versatile piece that adds personality and can be easily updated to reflect different times of the year.
- Hat Display: To add dimension and texture, we hung a collection of hats on the wall at the entrance to the basement and a couple within the room itself. This fun and functional decor choice enhances the room’s character and creates visual interest.
- Dog Room: Our “dog room” also received the Rock Bottom paint treatment. We added a battery-operated sconce and some cozy pillows to make it a welcoming spot for our furry friends.
