Spring is here which means it is time to get the yard and garden beds ready for summer. 

I am not a fan of spending my hot summer days bent over pulling weeds, so now is the time I like to get out and prep things for the months ahead.

I am no master gardener. I buy what I like, in the colors I like, and plant them in no particular order. 
Every spring I head to the nursery and pick up a few more things to plant.

One of my favorite plants is the hydrangea. I have rows and rows of them in blues, purples, and white. 
This winter my friend gave me some pruning tips so I am hoping when they bloom this year, they will be bigger than ever. Here are some photos over the years of my hydrangea beds.
You can see how in the photo above and the photo below, the same hydrangeas are a different color. You can change the color of hydrangeas by the acidity in your soil. You can read more about that in a post I did here.

My husband has always been the one to care for our lawn. I mow it, he edges it and fertilizes it and keeps it looking its best. 

I try and stick to a color palette of whites, blues, and purples. 

We have a lot of boxwood that defines different garden beds or areas. 

Our home is surrounded by mature trees which are so beautiful this time of year!

I also like to plant things that smell good, like this row of lavender that has yet to bloom this year. It gets really big and full and spills over the rock wall by our garage.

Pumpkins and tomatoes are also a few things I have planted in my galvanized tubs. 

To keep our gardens looking good we rely on a few key pieces. We recently just got this Greenworks trimmer and blower combo kit. 

We were so pleased with how quiet our Greenworks lawnmower was, and the ease of it being battery powered, that we have added to our “collection.”


What I also like about them is how lightweight they are, so even the kids can get involved in the yard work, without it seeming like work. 


My husband will use the trimmer and I will follow with the blower, and we have our yard cleaned up in no time. Plus it’s always funner to garden with someone!
