I used to think you should only hang plates in rooms that you eat in (the kitchen & dining room). But then I saw Miss Mustard Seeds new bedroom and fell in love with it. She hung plates on the wall and it looks amazing!
I love the look of plates on the wall. I hung them in my mother's guest room and it was big impact for a little money. Ironstone are my fav!
While I really do like the look…it's just not personally me in my own bedroom space. However I'd do it in a pinch in a guest room if I had one. Might also down the road do a plate wall in our youngest DD's room (she's only 2 rt now).
I'm a fan! I have vintage ironstone platters in a bathroom and love it! Now I'm collecting blue and white plates for my bedroom. Just last night, my husband asked why there was a stack of dishes in the bedroom – too funny!
Sorry. Not a fan of plates in a bedroom. Just wouldn't work for me at all.
Maybe it's because of what a plate generally stands for — an eating utensil. And I guess for me that doesn't promote relaxation, comfort, calm, retreat, ambiance, "dreaminess," etc.
I have seen picture of platters and plates hung in the bedroom but for some reason I just can't get into it. To me it looks "out of place" I think they should be hung in the kitchen, dining room, etc. Just my opinion.
I too agree with T. It looks out of place to me. Perhaps as a quirky discussion point in the guest room, but it does not impart tranquil master suite vibes IMHO.
Also, do you have a clue what the color of the walls are in the first picture? They are beutiful. I tried to chip it, but could not find the blue/green color.
I love the look of it, but my husband doesn't. He is afraid they will fall if they're above the bed 🙂
I think they look great but I live in LA, earthquake country, so I wouldn't do it But its a terrific look.
Living in earthquake country, that would be a no. A bigger NO for me is a mirror or anything with glass…
I try to stick with an old painted canvas, no glass or breakables above our heads…
I think it looks awful, like a decorator (or many) were looking for something different to put on the walls of a photo shoot and found plates to take up space. My vote is keep them in the dining room or kitchen. Try hanging a beautiful quilt behind the bed. Pretty, soft, takes up wall space, colorful (if you choose) and easy.
I am always afraid what I hang over the bed will fall down and hit me at some point. ha! So whatever I put there has no points,is not glass and won't kill me if it falls in my sleep, :). So no dishes, no big mirrors, no pictures with glass in them. Yes to oil paintings, anything cloth, anything adhered tightly to the wall that an earthquake cannot dislodge. Plates are just weird in a bedroom.
I love them. My husband thinks it's weird. 🙂
It looks good but does not make sense – I think you could find something else more appropriate for a bedroom – a starburst mirror, another collection (small antlers) or even art. Just my humble opinion – and yes, I saw Miss Mustard Seed's bedroom – looks good for photos but belongs on a dining room wall.
xo~Jill
I like the third picture where they are on the side wall. I'd be afraid of them falling on me when…well, you know.
I love the look – especially in the first photo but I am always afraid of hanging anything that could hurt me above my head. That's why I always struggle with what I should put above my own bed!

I love plates…but I think they are better suited to hang in kitchen, dinning room, sitting area. It seems odd to have them hanging in your room. I am sure you will do something fantastic.
Hey Melanie,
In as much as I love to 'think outta' the box' and to repurpose items from their intended use….I'm not not too crazy about plates in the bedroom.
With your talent with painting and sign design, I know you could come up with a wonderful, meaningful (and probably quite large) sign.
Blessings and looking forward to the results!
Susie
meNot a fan of this look at all for the bedroom.
I also love the look, but think plates are out of place in the bedroom.
Not a fan of plates in the bedroom…but that's just me ♥
Not a fav of mine, sorry 🙁
I am not a fan of plates on the wall in general, and definitely not in a bedroom. Something a bit softer more inviting would work. I totally agree with the comment about putting up one of your hand painted signs, something meaningful to you and your husband.
My rule of thumb that I've learned about myself is that if I'm debating it, that means I don't love it…and I shouldn't do it. That's just me though.
Wow, I guess I'm the only one that likes the look. Art and mirrors seem too predictable to me. I would do dishes in a heartbeat, especially ironstone. Actually in the middle of a bedroom update right now and considering dishes above the bed. Liking the idea even more since no one else likes it, I will be "unique". 😉
I love the look, but odd to have plates in the boudoir. Hubby might like it for a midnight snack!
I say yes! I think plates can be a part of any room's decor. I currently have old white ironstone platters hung in multiple rooms including a bathroom! Such a unique look,,,love it! 🙂

I would go with your gut if you have to question it then its probably not right.
You know what would look supper cool, is salvage wood from pallets, sorry Chris I just had to say it.
See you later alligator 🙂
Heather
Plates in a bedroom are weird but antlers are not? Hmmmm….I say whatever makes you smile/happy in your personal space……..go for it!!
LOVE plates in any room!~ I would hang them over the space above the lamps on either side of my bed though and leave the wall space above the bed itself for something eye catching! =) I've been contemplating hanging them in my bedroom as well and I believe I may just do that tonight!
love plates in every room of the house!
I'm not into plates, especially above the bed…maybe it's because I live in CA and am always worrying about earthquakes.
Hi, I would not hang plates except in a dining room or kitchen. I think they look silly in a bedroom….it's a trendy thing that comes and goes…
like all this painting everything in sight white…..not true to true farmhouse living. Country Living magazine should change it's name to Modern Country Living or Contemporary Country Living….just my opinion…Corinne
I think the plates would look wonderful in your bedroom. I have seen them in patterns over the bed as well as vertically on the sides of furniture, windows, etc. Go for it!
XO,
Jane
I love the plates! Plates on a wall make me think of the warmth and comfort of home!
i think it's kind of odd…but i'm sure it will look good whatever you do. =0)
I have about 5 plates clustered around a lamp in my bedroom. They've been up about 2 months and I love them!
I think the only time plates should be in the bedroom is when hubby is serving you breakfast in bed.
You noticed most of the headboards are arch shaped. I have that kind of headboard. I always felt I couldnt put up a frame as it doesnt look right with arched headboard. Plates works wonderful in those areas but I know about having plates in the bedroom. Right now there is nothing above my headboard.
Plates above the bed isn't for me, but I say if you like the look, give it a try! If everyone's taste were the same as mine, how boring that would be.
I say try it!! You always find your flow with your projects and sometimes you get another idea in the midst of it. Bringing a beautiful turn in creativity! I'm crossing my fingers you do it! You always add a little something extra to make it beautiful, unique and YOU!
Can't wait for a reveal!!

P.s. so stoked the comment box is working, even if its under "anonymous"!
Oyyy!!! Wink! Wink!
Have a beautiful day!
The plates in the second photo look really sweet.
If you love them and they make you happy to look at them, then do it. I have some plates that are so beautiful, and really are works of art. I would hang them in a bedroom.
Try it!
I don't know why, but I'm not a fan of plates on the wall in the bedroom. Now that I think about it, I'm not nuts about plates on the wall in any room.
LOVE your big pictures in your bedroom! So much so that I copied you. I have one little birdie plate from Anthro in my kitchen, but other than that, no plates.
Shag carpet and brown wood paneling didn't make sense but somebody thought it was cool and did it anyway. Your house and ideas are cool, if you want plates…DO IT! I guarantee you after you do, 50 other people will do it too.
Go with what you like. It's your bedroom. I've found whatever one does there will be different opinions. I like plates anywhere. I don't see it being a problem. And down the road, whatever you do, you'll get that bug for a change anyway. Not everything in our homes have to be blog approved.
I'm a Feng Shui consultant, I vote no.Master Bedrooms are dreamy, romantic places for rest and rejuvenation. Artwork for the couple is more appropriate, plates are related to kitchens and dining rooms. The above pictures are for staging, not for living. I blogged on this at thecentrichome.blogspot.com.
plates don't belong in a bedroom — that said – it's your bedroom do whatever YOU like!
You have some really pretty examples of plates in a bedroom. I had them around a shell mirror in our guest room. I am interested to see what you decide.
love the look and have used plates to decorate my dining room wall……fyi, don't use them over the headboard (on another wall instead) as if they fall for any reason, they will scare the daylights out of you….don't ask how I know…..smiles
Give it a try. When the plates are up…you will either love it…or want to take them down!!
Love the idea. what is the source for the third pic? Thanks!
I say go for it…..they can be graphic if done right….

I didn't hang plates in our master but I did hang the " Dollar Tree' Silver Platters they to me looked more I don't know " Bedroomy" if that is a word? Looking at them one would never know they were the Fake Silver Platters and only a 1$ to boot 🙂
I tried this in my living room around a gothic window and it is OK. I am bored with it, so I will be changing it again very soon! But it was interesting for a little while. Good luck with your project! Ana
