Today just started out for me.
Like any other day, my internal alarm wakes me up at 5:50 and I start my routine of getting the kids ready for school, packing lunches, feeding the dogs and most importantly, checking in on my favorite blogs
and catching up on emails!
I would like to address an email I got this morning.
Here it is:
It’s 4 in the morning and I am finally addressing something that has been bothering me for quit a while now. Why do you feel it is necessary to play music on your blog?
I’ve been following you for several years and am annoyed every time I check in. I think I just woke up everyone in the house (4AM).
I own a store and if I check in there everyone on the floor is startled. Yes I can turn it off….then I have to remember to turn my sounds back on…annoying!
I like seeing and reading your blog but feel attacked by your music!

My first thought to be honest with you was, “wow! Someone reads my blog at 4 am? I am so flattered!”
Then It sunk in that that was not the purpose of her email.
Over the last 3 years since I started this blog for every negative comment I get about music, I get 100 positive ones. I thought I would take a second to tell you why I chose to put music on my blog.
#1 music makes me happy.
#2 I like to have it on in the background while I am cleaning my house or puttering around, it’s like a radio station of my favorite songs.
#3 I feel like if you prefer not to hear music, you can hit the mute button on your computer.
There are several more, but I will stop at that.
Now, it’s time for your vote.
I write this blog for YOU readers, so it’s up to you.
Please comment on this post if you think I should keep music or give it up.
No nasty comments are necessary
{although I know 99.9% of you readers rock and wouldn’t do that anyway!}
I will tally all the votes tonight and make my decision based on what you all have to say.

I love your blog, but I have to agree with Miss 4am. I really don't like music on blogs, for much the same reason. It is startling, not just to me, but to anyone around. I'm sorry, just my honest opinion.
I love your blog. I would vote no music, not because I don't love your music but more because I usually have pandora going on my computer already so when I come to a blog with music I have to scroll down and turn it off. I would of never complained about it. I too feel it's your blog, your, creative outlet, do what you want….but since you asked… I am not a fan of music on blogs.
I hate your music with a fiery burning passion and occasionally forget to click no-sound before going to your link, and then I exit the whole shebang immediately. I think it's some sort of ADD thing… when the music plays I can't read! But it's your blog, do what makes you happy!
I love to read your blog and I tend to mute my sound just after I turn my computer on each day.
I love music but not when I'm trying to focus on reading the blogs I follow. For me it is too much. I just want to concentrate on the content of each blog without the sound of my voice in my head competing with the music being played.
If your followers don't want to hear the music, muting the sound on your computer, before you log onto the blogs could be the asnswer. It works for me!

I feel viewers should have a choice. Not everyone will enjoy a bloggers' taste. Putting the widget at the top so they can have it or not is an idea. I personally don't like it when music is on a blog: it's annoying when it mixes with what I'm listening to or gets me busted for browsing at work.
PS I almost didn't write after noticing the word verification below – another blog pet peeve. The spam filter is excellent, no blogger needs the captcha.
I follow your blog and love your music, sometimes I hear a song that I haven't heard in awhile and it makes me smile. I say keep it 🙂
I read your blog in Google reader, so the music isn't an issue for me. However, I design sites as a side business and as a professional practice, I'll tell you most designers recommend NOT having automatic music on a blog. There is actually a lot of consumer research on this and 95% of the time (I am not making up that statistic) customers/site visitors prefer not to have automatic music. Yes, music is wonderful and everyone needs it, but it is also very personal. Secondly, it can be found elsewhere on the Internet (Pandora, Spotify, just to name a couple) and so people aren't visiting individual blogs for that purpose.
Mostly I come to your site for the photos and ideas, so music is not necessary whatsoever for me to enjoy a blog.
I vote "no"on nasty comments. I love your blog! I think your music and your taste is music is so inviting. Keep letting your blog be YOU its what makes it so fun and inspiring!
I don't like the email you received at all!!! but if I'm being totally honest, I'm not a huge fan of the music. I'm usually listening to something on Spotify while I read blogs and to have to pause it while I read your blog is a pain sometimes. Totally love you and your blog, but that's just my preference.

I read your blog through RSS so I never visit the site, but I definitely H-A-T-E sites with sounds on them. Sorry for the strong word, but I really don't like it.
If I want music, I put on my own and then I do not want it mixed with whatever site I am visiting.

I prefer blogs to not play music. It is kind of a pain to have to remember to turn my sound on and off. But it's YOUR blog, so you should do what makes you happy.

I find it embarrassing/startling when music suddenly turns on when I am surfing the net. That said, I read most blogs on Google Reader, so it isn't much of an issue, unless I have to click on the link to read the full blog post on the actual site, and music is on autoplay there. This is a pet peeve of mine as well.
It's your space my dear. Yes I'm sure you want people visiting this is why you blog however people come to see what you have to offer and if music is part of that than so be it!

I actually hit the mute button myself after a few seconds. While I do enjoy music around the house when I am diddling about, when it comes to reading and wanting to really take in what I am reading, I find the music a distraction! (a simple mind I guess). But it is your blog and we are guests! It is nothing to just hit the mute button. Your music selections are part of who you are and for the first few seconds I do enjoy your picks. I would suggest that the person who wrote to you just 'chill' a bit and relax or find another blog that is a better fit for her tastes. There certainly many out there!
I really enjoy your blog and believe that the purpose of a blog is an outlet for a person's creativity, therefore what you do should entirely be up to you.
I love music, it is always playing in my home from literally every different genre.
I live in a rural area outside of the city and my internet is not high speed by any means and the music on websites really slows me down, no matter how much I love the sound. This may be the source of others issue as well.

I say that it is your blog and you should do what you want. I love your music selections and have the option to stop it if I want to. I debated about this same thing on my blog and have set my playlist so the visitor has to click on the play button if they want to hear the music.
Lose the Tunes. The first thing i think about when wanting to check out your posts is the music and how i need to shut off the volume on my computer. Takes away from your pics and words. I don't want you to be the loud music blog lady! You have way to much good stuff to look at!!
Enjoy visiting your blog, however, I prefer no music on any blog. I always end up having to switch my sound off. I do appreciate browsing playlists for new artists, etc., but would rather opt into the music instead. Having said that, I would continue with what you love the most.

My jaw dropped when I read that email. I am truly amazed and that is all I better say about that. I just want to say thank you for all your inspiriation you give through this blog… Music or no music.
I have to admit that music on any blog always startles me and I immediately mute it but it is then a pain to always remember to unmute-especially if I get caught up in what I am seeing on your blog. I love music but not when I am trying to concentrate on something else.
Some days I like music and some days I prefer silence and the days I prefer silence, I simply turn off the volume. Simple fix and no big deal to turn on the volume again later. Do what makes you happy!!
I'm with Kristen…I usually have my own music going on Spotify so I would prefer to not scroll down to stop it. I do love your blogging & hope you do what YOU want. I don't want to be vague since you did ask for our vote…my vote would be no music or I know you can still have the player but you can set it to not play instantly, the reader can press play if they want to hear your music. Just an option! 🙂

My blog reading occurs at 5 am while the rest of the house is still sleeping. I love the peace, the quiet…
So while I vote "no music please" I understand that this is your blog and you of course should do what you like.

No music please! I agree with a lot of the other commenters in that it is startling and when you have different windows open and blogs are playing music it is way too distracting. I usually have my radio on to a talk station while I browse blogs anyway and don't need additional sound. Thank you for asking our opinions. I love your blog and style. I prefer no music. I listen to my own radio station while reading blogs through my computer, so I can't just hit the mute button. By the time the page loads (music makes it load more slowly I've found) the clashing sounds make for my-poor-old-computer issues. Though I do like your taste in music, too, I do sometimes put off reading your blog b/c I know the music is coming and I am listening to a personal favorite or an NPR story and then forget to come here at all that day. Sad day 🙁

Disclaimer: I don't mean this mean! Look at it this way: does it annoy you when you go to a website and one of their ads starts talking to you and your speakers are turned up from listening to music or watching a show and it nearly blasts you out of your seat? That's the same thing that happens when people come on your site. I don't think you should remove it though, just have the option to play it if you want but for it to be silent until you choose to do so, same thing all the respectable playing ads do.
I mute the music. Do I think you should remove it? If you want. If not, it's REALLY easy to hit the mute button if you don't want to hear it. It's YOUR blog. I'm am constantly baffled by people who feel the need to make comments about these things.

I love your style especially the original pictures of your kitchen! Love the music. I feel like it adds a dimension to a blog, and almost always love anytime someone has added it. To me, that expression is totally worth the 'trouble' of turning off whatever I was already listening to. So my vote is pro pro pro music 🙂

I've come to expect music on your site. I noticed there was none today; I checked my sound just to make sure.
I say keep the music; if someone doesn't want to hear it, the mute is easy to use/
i don't care for the music. On other blogs I can turn it off one time, and then it doesn't come on again when I open the blog< maybe that is a possibility.
Post music but put the player at the top of your page so that those who want to turn it off don't have to take 5 minutes to find the player. I wish everyone would do that.
I prefer no music on a blog because I read them while nursing my baby, and I inevitably forget to mute it. That being said, I definitely think you should do what YOU want to do.

LOVE the music on your blog and on others, and if I'm up early or trying to blog read while my family is watching TV, I just turn the sound off right from my computer. Sometimes I leave your blog up and open a new window so I can listen to your music while I read the news or clean up the kitchen!!

love following your blog, but to be honest, I must your music everytime. Usually I'm listening to my own music ,and when im not, it does kind of startle me. But all in all, its your blog. 🙂
It took me a little while to get used to it but now I enjoy it. It's kind of like walking into a favorite small shop or boutique that welcomes visitors with lovely displays, soft music in the background, and woodsy and floral scents. You go there partly because you like how the shop makes you feel for the short time you're there. You've created that kind of homey atmosphere that makes me want to stay a little longer and browse.
My goodness Melaine it seems most are too busy to stop and smell the roses these days..I always enjoy your music selections and have actually went to the bottom to see who is singing what because they are such good songs. I also hate leaving your site because the next blog won't have that same sweet feeling…guess I'm in a different position than most, I for one will miss your music if you go with the majority vote…it felt like I got to know you a bit more hearing what tunes you love…you are a such a sweet soul girl..of course I vote for you to do what "mows your lawn" it is your blog after all, you are unique and should celebrate that….xxoo 🙂

Yes, since you asked I'm not a fan of music on blogs BUT it is your blog and you can do what you want:) I have the sound turned off anyway but if I do have it on and click on a blog that has music I sometimes just click off the blog!

I prefer no music on a blog which is why I don't have any on my blog. But this is YOUR blog. It's an expression of YOU and, therefore, you should have it the way YOU want it. For those of us, like myself, who don't want to hear the music, we can hit the mute button.
Bottom line, you will always find someone who won't like it or find something to complain about. You can't please everyone, as the saying goes! ;o)

While I like your taste in music, I prefer that blogs do not have music. I almost always mute it after it starts, because it interferes with what I am listening to, whether that be TV or CD. What I dislike even more is having to do the double word verification. I have a hard time telling what the words are, so usually need several attempts.
If I am already listening to something on my computer, I either hit mute ( playing 2 songs together scrambles my brain!) or I stop one of them. It isn't like it is across the room…. the button is just inches from where I am scrolling! Keep it! It is your blog!

First – I love music & it's your blog, you should do as you wish. However – While I like your music it usually startles me when it comes on "with" my music I'm already listening to, lol. (or wakes up the family in the wee hours, lol) It would be great if the widget was at the top so it was easier to turn off without turning mine off/down too.
I say KEEP the music, after all it is YOUR blog. If readers don't like the music choices or the music at all for that matter then I guess they can take you off their list of blogs to read! I am shocked that someone would have such an opinion {and be so passionate for that matter} on someone else's blog. Keep it, it's yours do as you like. If I don't like the music on a blog, I turn it down – simple as that!
Keep the music!!! It is YOUR BLOG!! These complaining unhappy people can take one extra second and mute the music and read about the great things that you have written about on YOUR BLOG!!!

I didn't even know you had music (doesn't play in Canada). Which is probably a good thing because I would have closed the browser immediately and never subscribed. Music being forcefully played on the internet is never a good thing. Can you instead make it where people can click play to hear the music? That way people who want it still have it, and people who can't have music for whatever reason aren't inconvenienced by it?

I for one don't like the music and do find it annoying to turn off the sound at every blog that has one but I would never write a nasty email telling you to remove it. It's your blog and you should do what you want. (though I also feel the music playing is so Myspace circa 2005. just saying.) :o)

Your blog doesn't play music to me as I'm in the UK and it doesn't stream for some reason however, I usually mute blogs with music as I find them annoying. If you want to keep the music on however, that's your choice and shouldn't really be dictated to by others!

I live in rural America with friends spread out all over the area. I highly recommend your blog to them, unfortunately high speed internet is not available to all of them in their area or is too expensive. With the music playing your blog takes a very long time to load on dial-up and many say they just give up going to your blog because of that, they prefer to follow blogs with no music that run faster.I have read every post you have ever made on your blog and have followed you on Rate My Space as well but I do not like the music playing when I am trying to read. Yes I do mute it right away before logging on when I remember but when I don't it has been disrupting to others around me. With so many wifi gadgets and reading blogs while in public it can be distracting to others. I love your blog and will continue to follow. Jeni

I read all of my blog in my Google Reader, which doesn't play music. I'd suggest that you offer that option to people who don't like the music. Simply sign up on Reader.Google.Com and enter all of your blog addresses. Then, you only need to check ONE place every day for your new blog posts!

Obviously, it's your blog so I completely support your desire to do whatever you want. If you want music, then go for it! That being said, I read blogs in Google reader so I don't have to experience any music. I want to read your words and see your pictures, so I've found the best way to do that for my personal situation.

Personally, I don't care for the music, I don't have it on my blog but, I do understand many other love it. I often just log in, check out your new post and then walk away and let the music play while I do whatever! When I rented a booth in the local store there was always great music playing and MOST customers said that it completed the experience of shopping! (All the senses were involved) I love your music and wish other bloggers would add it to their blogs!

Sometimes I like the music and other times I wish it were off. I do find myself turning off the sounds more than I listen to it. I wish you didn't have to scroll down so far to find it. On the other hand I've heard some songs that are more "Northwest type" that I've like and have never heard before. I even downloaded some from Itunes. Updating them periodically would be great. Also if I go to another website from yours – your music is still playing, ugh…..

I usually hit my mute button when I start looking at blogs, so I'm not startled when music starts playing suddenly. I prefer no music, but that's why I put it on mute. I can't stand it when people get nasty and demanding about other people's blogs! It's your preference whether you play music or not just like it's your preference to post beautiful pictures and write awesome posts. So I say you should do what makes you happy. I think that you should keep the music. It is a wonderful part of the blogging experience. The only thing better than music is more music!
Seriously people? Turn off the sound if you don't want it. It's a simple off on button on your PC.
Melanie, it's your blog, it's about you. Do what makes YOU happy. I have a few blogs that I have popped out the player so I can listen to their music at other times. Why someone would send an email like that is beyond me.
P.S. You can also turn off Autoplay on your music list so the reader has the option to play the music themselves when they read your blog:)

I really enjoy your blog! I would prefer if websites not play music, though, because I often listen to the radio while 'surfing' – if every website had its own music it would be a bit much!
I say…it's not a big deal to turn music down when on a blog that has it if I don't wish to hear it. I say, your blog… You choose the content, pictures, and if you want the music there go ahead and leave it. I don't think you're losing many readers over it 😉 I don't love music on blogs, but only because I have my own on, but really no big deal.

I use google reader to keep up with all the blogs that I like and don't hear your music. I'm not a fan of music on blogs, but you need to do what makes you happy! Tell you reader that complained to simply use google reader – no music – it's that simple – everyone's happy!
I just discovered your blog and absolutely LOVE it BUT I really don't care for music on blogs. It's distracting to me even if I like the song selection. Plus, I noticed that when I tried to go to previous pages/topics on your site, the music would mess up and start playing a new song and then 2 songs would be playing at the same time. That is annoying, sorry. I would say if you keep it, that should be fixed. 🙂

It's your blog, which is why I have never expressed my preference, which is no music. I like your taste in music, but my dog barks whenever the music suddenly comes on, and sometimes another member of my family may have left the volume very loud so if I am reading at an early hour…so that's all personal to me so do what you want! I just read it in the Reader, then if I need to go to your site, I prepare myself to switch off the music.

It is sad you have to do this pole Melanie. This person is making something that is her/his problem into your problem. She/he has a couple of choices…..don't visit your blog, or hit mute on her/his computer. If little things in life like this get her/him so worked up, I actually feel kind of sad for her/him.
I always have mute on my computer and only turn on sound when there is something I want to hear. So the music is neither here no there for me.

The music sort of annoys me, too. It would be nice if it was a preference to turn it off or on and that preference would be remembered when I next come back. Or at least, have the "buttons" for it at the top of your blog so I don't have to scroll all the way down to mute it. Yes, I could mute my computer when only on your site, but that is slightly annoying, too. I have dozens and dozens of blogs bookmarked, and yours is the only one with music so I don't think it's unheard of to ask you to at least make the music a choice. I like your taste in music and it's your blog so it you want music, keep it. However… I always mute it (as I do every blog that has music) because it distracts me. What is really annoying to me is when there is music and then someone puts a video on for you to watch. You have to scroll down and mute the music and then unmute the computer to listen to the video. Oh, the turmoils of life! 🙂

It's a tough call! I really enjoy your music selection but then I will start navigating to your other recent visitors' blogs and if they have music playing it really gets all jumbled up! That to me is the only problem I see; I know that is the purpose of other bloggers visiting but then I don't get to enjoy your music.
Haha…I had. To laugh when I read this bc I check your blog everyday and the music still surprises me. There have been several occasions when im tryin to be sneaky and forget to mute it so I don't wake anyone up and it scares the crap out me and them. Or my husband gives me the do u really have to play that music while I'm trying to watch this look……LOL. I love your blog, but I would have to agree with the 4 am reader. I also don't think she was trying to be malicious. She was just trying to give input, while at the same time compliment you on your obviously beautiful design aesthetic. Often times when I am reading my daily blogs, I have my own music on. When I open a blog that already has music, it starts playing with my music and it just gets jumbled. Is there a way to have make it so it doesn't turn on when you open the blog, but you have the option to turn it on if you like? Just a thought!

I ALWAYS have my computer muted no matter what. I don't like to hear the "ding" when I click my mouse onto certain things and had no idea that you had music on your blog until reading this! LOL! I am surprised that you even put this out there to the masses. I would hate for you to change your blog if you get more votes for no music than for it. This is your outlet and personally I feel, who really cares if it annoys some. I know that you love all of your readers and your feelings were probably hurt to read some of the comments and to find that you were "bothering" a few, but blogs are so personal. I got a little long winded. In a nutshell, if they don't like it, they don't have to listen to it. Be you and keep the music!

I love your blog, but don't love the music. I enjoy listening to music too, whether I'm on my computer or around my house, but the problem is I am already listening to some of my own selections before coming to your page. It's a bit of an inconvenience to have to pause one or the other, especially with yours quite a ways down the page; you have to scroll and make sure you don't go past it or then you have to scroll back up, etc.
I agree with one suggestion about putting it in a widget at the top of the page so the reader can choose whether or not to turn it on.

I think I check your blog just about every day, I love it! I like the music, but I find it distracting sometimes when I'm reading your posts (I'm trying to read your words while someone is singing words)…it messes with me~ maybe I'm just funny that way. I find that if I'm looking around for any amount of time at your posts I just hit my mute button, no big deal. In the end, you just do what makes your heart sing and to heck with what others think..it's that why we have a mute button? Have a great day 🙂

I LOVE your blog and I check it just about every day. Oddly I feel like we are kind of one sided friends! lol! Although I really like the music that you have and I downloaded almost all of your playlist on itunes I do not like when I visit the sight and the music comes on. I not only read your site but I also love the blogs you have featured as well. When you click on them some of them have music as well so you have 2 songs going, then I have to close your site and come back to it which is annoying.
I also miss your home tour! When you click on the HGTV link it doesnt take you there anymore. Sometimes I just like to look at the pictures and pretend my house is even close to as awesome as yours! haha!

Melaine…you can't please everyone. Do what makes you happy. It is your blog. If you start accommodating one person then there will be another right behind her with another rude comment about something else on the blog. If they are faithful followers and don't care for the music selection then they will mute it and read your blog. I like the music. If I don't want to hear it then I simply mute it.
I usually read your blog in google reader so I can avoid the music. When I do click over to read comments and such on some posts I quickly hit mute. Is it possible to keep the player on pause but those that want to here the music have to hit play button? You have a beautiful blog and I will continue to read whatever you choose.

Definitely no music. I usually have several blog tabs open at any given time, so when people put music on their blog, it's a discordant nightmare. Yes, I can mute, which I do, but occasionally, I forget to do it before I start and it is quite startling. Also, just because I enjoy reading someone's blog, doesn't mean I share their taste in music. That's my 2 cents worth, but I'm glad you brought it up, because it is one of my pet peeves as I'm sure it is for others as well-not a deal breaker, but definitely an annoyance. Right below word verification which is a whole other subject. 🙂

Sometimes I find a new song I haven't heard before. Sometimes I let your blog run so I can hear your music while I am puttering around my house.

If we didn't have the same taste in music it might bother me. There are several blogs I frequent whose music I don't care for so I just turn it down. Never thought it was a big deal though. I do find it hard to believe that you've listened to these same songs for the past 5 months or so while you clean house though. You have a playlist account so why not listen to them from that site instead of your blog. Just sayin!

I have never commented on a blog before but just had to tell you that although I prefer no music, it hasn't stopped me from enjoying your wonderful blog everyday for the past several years. Sometimes I do listen though. Also I wanted to commend you on how gracefully you handled such a rudely worded comment. I probably would have sent off a nasty email and fumed about it all day. Instead, you showed such kindness by actually asking your readers their preference. How a person who is visiting your blog can say they are being attacked by your music is ridiculous. If they are visiting the site then they should realize they are a guest there. You don't invite yourself to someone's home and start making demands when you get there-how rude! Lisa

I'm sorry you have to even conduct this vote, I know that creating a blog is a personal thing and in a way it is your baby and no one wants to hear badly of their baby. I am giving my opinion regarding the addition of the music, but in no way do I hope to offend you. Now with that said; I do read through your blog along with others everyday. I am one of those people who has a million tabs opened at the same time. I too love music and usually have Pandora streaming on my TV. When I log into my PC all of my preexisting tabs open up which would include your blog. Now, when I remember to, I do lower the volume on my speakers, however some times I am preoccupied with the children or something else and I forget to lower the volume. You can imagine when everything comes up, the sound in the house can be quite annoying (especially when the kids and my husband are yelling at me to turn it down)! All at once added to my own music playing is the music from your blog and a few other blogs who choose to add music as well. It ends up sounding like a music band gone wrong, lol. I vote for there to be no music only because I enjoy reading your blog and others and I enjoy hearing "my" music choices that I am already streaming. Ultimately it is your choice because it's your blog so go with your heart on this one. I do hope however that you get a better understanding of why people such as myself would vote for no music. Regardless of what your choice is, I will still continue to read your blog and try to remember to turn down my speakers, lol. Good luck.

I actually don't mind it – it startles me at first, but its usually good music. In fact – believe it or not, years ago when i first started reading My Sweet Savannah, your music box introduced me to Colbie Caillat (Bubbly, I think was the song…) and I would leave your page up in the background while I perused other blogs (after finishing reading yours of course!) and I would get so mad when Safari would quit unexpectedly and I'd have to start over in the middle of a good song.
So I say "let the music play!"

Music is a very personal choice for what is playing and when it is playing. I prefer to make my own choices. At the first sound of music on yours or any blog, the mute button is pushed. Then I can enjoy your pictures without annoyance.

It is your blog PERIOD! I love the music you have, however, sometimes it does come up load because my husband forgets to lower the volume, but it really onlt take me two seconds to lower the volume and then I'm on my way to enjoying your blog….. Some people just forget that life DOES NOT revolve around them. I would never comment to you otherwise as this is your blog…but since you asked….words cannot express how much I don't like the music playing on your blog (or any other for that matter.) Irritating doesn't begin to describe. Everytime I have to turn your music off I'm thinking to myself "why do they think we like to hear music while we're reading their blogs…seriously!!!!" Sorry but I totally agree with the emailer in your post. Sometimes if the volume is turned up on my speakers I just about have a heartattack when your music starts up. But I love your blog!! 🙂
I say delete the music… if you scroll through your blog, each time a page loads it starts the first song all over again. I hate music on all blogs… never know quite how loud it's gonna be, if it's gonna be soft, or rock. Then if you are already listening to Pandora, you are listening to two things at once. I like to come here for decor ideas not music… plus it's doubtful if everyone has the same taste in music. Just my .02

I love my praise music on mine and I have so many comments on how it ministers to people when they hear it. I also have a few who it annoys. I am sorry it annoys them, but it's staying. I love it and like you, I turn mine up and listen to it when I am doing other things.

Please please please delete the music! of course it's your blog, that goes without saying! And you clearly express your creativity and preferences through blog design, posting content, etc. Music is not necessary to do that! You want to appeal to your readers, right?!? There is nothing worse than blog music! I don't share the same music taste with everyone so that right there makes it annoying. Plus as someone else pointed out, I often have 5 or 6 blogs up simultaneously then I'm hunting for who has the music and often the tag/button is placed in very different places from one blog to another so I'm scrolling frantically trying to find the box to turn it off and if I can't find it quick enough, I simply leave the blog. Frankly it's obnoxious, on all blogs. Please turn it off!

Good Lord, what a sad state of the day if music should be included or not included. Honestly, I feel like I am being invited into your home for a visit and NEVER would I ask my host to turn off their music. If music is the reason people read or don't read a blog then that is super sad if that is the complaint. I love your blog and love the music. This blog is a representation of you. If they don't want to hear the music then they can hit mute. You can't please everyone and if you start trying to make changes to please one side then you offend the other…no win. Do what makes you happy.
Your blog is your blog. I beleive people should respect that. There are days I let it play, and those where I turn it off. Why, when we have that option should you be asked to turn it off? I am sure the mute button is just a pinky stretch away.

No Music- This is not personal, I don't like music on anyone's blog. But you are the boss of your own blog so do what you want.
I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE your blog and visit every signle day but I prefer NO music. But, I have no big issue with it being there as I can always use the mute button.
I loved your music at first, but that was when I was reading your blog at home, alone. In fact, I found myself loving several of the songs, ones that I had never heard before, and searching for them on iTunes.
But, now, I have a toddler and am often reading your blog while he naps, so I worry it will wake him.

I absolutely love your blog, but find it very annoying everytime the music starts. A lot of the time I'm listening to my own music on my computer while catching up on blogs, and then have to go scrolling/searching for your music box to mute it so that I can still listen to my own music. And I don't read blogs in Google Reader b/c I don't have a Google Account (is that required to use Google Reader?) & I actually like looking at the site & poking around to see if there's anything new on the sidebars, etc. I am really hoping the no music wins! 🙂

No music. It's like perfume. We love our own, but can be overwhelmed with someone else's. I see blogging as inviting someone into your home. We're chatting. Background noise–tv or music–is distracting to many of us.

I Must admit – I am not a fan of music on blogs either. My vote would be to get rid of it, I only tell you this because You have asked! However, it is your blog and you should do what you feel is right for your blog. My gut tells me you will keep the music no matter what the outcome of this survey is.

Lol just because so many people don't like it makes me want to listen to your music I'm a rebel tho. My goodness, if u are an early reader and worried about the music you should already have the volume turned down. If you are at work, then why are you taking chances anyway when things are tough anymore. If you have other music playing in the background then visit this site when you don't. If its too hard to turn a mute after you've already learned all this computer jargon then there might be another problem here. This is the deal, you have created an amazing site that many enjoy! Even the ones who don't prefer music, they still visit . Polls can be taken and gather whatever, but that one person that loves your music may gain the inspiration your blog has created in them and in turn create another blog that unleashes creativity and inspiration for us all. If all blogs were the same why bother? Make your mark in the blogging world and don't question yourself. Look at your numbers, you are doing something right!!!!

omg I love your music. If you won't be playing anymore could you list the songs that you had on your ear candy before the country music. I loved it and went to sleep, crafted, cleaned and relaxed to it.

I would like the music to be an option to turn on. I also have wierd hours and can not check your blog often. It is a blog I avoid at night or early morning due to the music. It would be better if we could choose to turn it on or off.

I know it's a little late to weigh in but I thought I would comment anyway.
I love blogs with music. I think it gives me a little insight into the blogger's personality. And I've discovered some really cool songs and singers through blogs.
As for my own blog, I change the music frequently and I even try to match a song to each post. I guess I just have fun with music. I think you should keep it!

Music is fine BUT remember many of us steal time for enjoying our blogs when the kids are napping or late at night or early in the morning when family members are sleeping. This is mommy time. If you have music on the blog put the off button near the top so that we don't have to waste time scrolling to the bottom trying to find it before the kids wake up.
