If you haven’t seen this post on my Instagram, you need to go look at it!
You guys went nuts for my DIY modern Christmas village.
I thought it would be a great idea to document a blog post sharing how I created these.
In case you have been living under a rock {kidding} you will know that I love to go thrifting.
I go at least once a week.
It is something I love to do and the thrill of the hunt is always so exciting.
Whether I go with something in mind that I am hoping to find, or just go to browse, I typically always walk out with a new treasure.
So when I saw these Christmas houses {pardon the blurry i phone pics}
I knew I had to have them.
If you like to thrift, keep your eyes peeled for these.
Or maybe you even have some?
If you don’t, and you don’t thrift, don’t worry because I found some really reasonable ones on Amazon right here.
The process is really simple.
You will want to spray paint these in a well ventilated protected area.
This is the exact spray paint I used. Do 3-4 light coats to prevent runs, and to ensure all the color gets covered.
I initially started brushing on the paint but realized the spray paint {with the primer built in} was a much smoother look and all in all a better way to go.
Once dry you can use a detail brush to paint any accents you’d like with this gold leaf paint.
I painted the rooftops on mine and a little border on the bottom of each one.
This paint dries to the best gold color ever and goes on like butter. A little goes a long way so you will have a bit left over for other projects. I have used this paint on so many things, you will absolutely love it!
If you’d like to age the gold a bit you can do what I did and once dry buff on a little black or dark wax. Totally optional but it just gives it a little more character.
If your little houses have lights, you can add those back in!
If not, these little fairy lights are great, as well as these battery operated tea lights.
*Tip*
Use a cake stand or riser to elevate one or two of them. The varying heights will look so good on your shelf or tabletop!
I just purchased these and plan on using some for this purpose.
I hope you found this post helpful and that it inspires you to paint some of your own!
I am already thinking about painting some black for Halloween next year!
Please pin any of these images to your Pinterest boards to help spread the love.
