Only 3 things are needed and everything is super inexpensive. -BALLOONS, these are the ones I used -Clear plastic ball ornaments. I got mine in a 2 pack at the Dollar Tree, but you can also buy them here. {note that I wouldn’t go bigger than 4″ because it will be too hard to stretch the balloon over it. Don’t go too much smaller too or the balloon will not be tight fitting} Twine or ornament hooks to hang. I used twine on mine. Ribbon would also be pretty too. You will see what I mean by this below. How to make these DIY ornaments-
Start by stretching your balloons. You can do this by simply hand stretching them or blowing them up a few times. To be honest I don’t know how much this step really helped, but I feel like it helped enough to note it here. The balloon kit I used comes with different sizes of balloons. If you get a balloon kit like I did, make sure to just use the “normal” sized balloons for this project. Then cut 1/2″ -1″ off the top of each balloon. Remove the top from the ornament and set aside. Next you will want to insert fingers from each hand into the top of the cut off balloon and carefully but quickly stretch it over the plastic ornament from the bottom up. It took me a few times to get the rhythm down, but once I did it was very simple. For me it worked best sitting down and with the ornament upside down sandwiched between my knees. You will figure out what works for you. The part you cut off will end up at the top of your ornament where the hook will be placed back on to cover it up.Can you use glass ornaments for this?
You might be wondering if you can just recycle old round ornaments you have and the answer is yes! I started out with glass ornaments but I will say I switched to plastic after one broke in my hand. Let’s just say, the bloody balloon ornament was not the look I was going for. So if you use glass ones, be extra careful as they will break easily and can rip the balloons easily. What do you think of my balloon ornament tree? I am going to do some black ones next for our living room tree! They are so easy and so simple and no one would ever know they are balloons!Pro Tip-
Pay attention to the sheen of your balloons. The balloons I used are matte and they create a higher end looking finish than I think cheap shiny balloons would. The balloons are literally pennies and I have a ton left over to create more or use for another occasion. Will you try making DIY balloon ornaments? I think you should!
