A few days back while it was pouring down rain outside,
the kids and I decided to do a little project.
I got the idea from Pottery Barn where they sell a set of 4 chalkboard rocks for $16.00!
OK, seriously, this project was super easy and FREE!
First we gathered rocks from around the yard, this was the fun part for the kids.

{which plugged it up with dirt so I recommend doing this part outdoors with the hose!}
Then, instead of using chalkboard paint, we used what we had on hand.
Here is what you will need for this rainy day project:
1} rocks
2} black paint
3} yellow paint, or any other color of your choice
4} paintbrush
5} lots of newspaper
The kids painted all the rocks and we set them by the fire to dry quickly.
I painted on the words the kids gave me, in this case, spooky words.
While I did this part the kids painted other rocks to look like pumpkins.
So, there you have it.
Not too fancy, definitely not Pottery Barn, but fun to make!

What a cute idea, for any holiday. I just bought some magnetic primer and chalkboard paint. I have a 1940's kitchen table and chairs, and want to paint it with the tow paints I bought. Then kids can draw on the table and chairs with chalk, and even put magnets on, because of the magnetic paint. I got both paints at Lowe's in the spray paint section.
Very cute. I too thought the PB version could be recreated for a fraction of the cost.

These are fun aren't they? I saw the pic @ PB too and just did a few with my Grand Daughter..we did the chalkboard paint-she's only 2 so she loves using all her cool colored chalk to color the rocks!!

I love that idea. I saw that at a wedding once. The guest were to write their name on one of the stones provided.
I saw those in their catalog today and seriously laughed out loud at the outrageous price! If people are really spending that much on rocks, I need to start selling! Way to turn it into a cute craft 🙂
