I know this is last minute but I have a fun DIY project for you today, perfect for Valentine’s day, but really cute year round in a bedroom!
This DIY heart appliqué pillow requires no sewing machine and it is actually really relaxing to make!
I was inspired by this one from Pottery Barn. I think mine turned out even cuter! Here’s the Pottery Barn version…..
And here is mine!
Gather your materials-
Start with a throw pillow cover. One you already own, or you can purchase one.
This is the one I used. Any size is fine and any color is fine!
Next, grab some embroidery thread and fabric scraps, as well as this wonder fuse.
The fabric scraps can be all one color, or varying colors. I chose a fabric with a nubby texture so it stood out against the linen look of the pillow.
You will also need an iron and sharp scissors.
Instructions-
Follow the instructions on the wonder fuse package to iron onto your fabric, then cut out in heart shapes of varying sizes, and iron onto the front of you pillow.
If you don’t feel comfortable free handing your heart shapes, you can cut out a template first and trace on. This is the method I used.
Once all your hearts are ironed on you can stitch some decorative stitching around them with your embroidery thread!
This does not have to be perfect, in fact, the messier the better in my opinion.
Additionally, you could skip this step all together and the pillow will still look great!
You can see how I used different neutral colors of the embroidery thread to contrast with the hearts.
I paired it with this pillow for Valentine’s day and I think they are the perfect combo!
I love how it turned out and I saved so much money by making my own.
Do you think you will try making one?
Don’t forget to pin these images!
Hope you are having a great day!
