DIY oversized star wreath!

We are less than a month away from one of my favorite holidays!
I am always looking for fun ways to add neutral decor to my Fourth Of July decor.
I do love pops of red and blue, but I choose to use more subtle colors, and this DIY oversized star wreath is the perfect example of that!

SUPPLIES-
Ribbon, I like Redwood and Slate Blue {optional}
Hula hoop, I used a 30″ one
Twine or yarn {cream colored}
Straw or skewer
Sandpaper or sanding block

INSTRUCTIONS-
Paint your hula hoop with off white or white paint. It doesn’t have to be perfect. I had many drips on mine. You just want to cover up the majority of the color so it doesn’t show through in the end.
While it is drying, roll out your air dry clay and cut out all different size stars with your cookie cutters. For reference, I used about 35 stars on mine, about 2 packs of air dry clay.
Don’t go too thin on the stars because you don’t want to risk breaking them.

In the largest stars, puncture the centers with 2 holes using a straw or skewer about 1/2″-1″ apart.

Let dry, then sand any rough edges.
You are going to cover half the hula hoop in stars, and the other half you are going to wrap in the yarn or twine.
Start with the stars.
Tie on the largest stars first, making sure the tie is in the back.
Next you can start to hot glue on the other stars and layer them over the largest ones, covering up the holes/ties as you go.
I do have a video on Instagram if you need the visual.

To finish it off, wrap the yarn or twine around the remaining half of the hula hoop

If you’d like, you can add ties of festive ribbon on either end!

Display indoors or outdoors {covered} and enjoy your handiwork!
