Today, I’m going to show you how I took a simple thrifted cone-shaped tree and turned it into a gingerbread-inspired Christmas tabletop tree that fits right into my holiday décor! The transformation of a Gingerbread Christmas tabletop tree, combined with the beauty of thrifting, creates a unique and festive holiday decoration full of charm and character.

I recently came across  charming cone-shaped tabletop trees at my local thrift store. While they had great potential, the trees were covered in bright red berries and sat in a shiny silver pot—neither of which fit my gingerbread-inspired holiday vibe. So, I decided to give it a complete makeover, and now it’s a perfect addition to my home’s festive décor. Here’s how I turned this thrifted find into a gingerbread masterpiece!

Step 1: Spray Paint the Pot

The first thing I did was address the tree’s pot. The silver metallic look didn’t match the gingerbread theme I was going for, so I decided to give it a warm, cozy makeover with a spray paint color that screamed “gingerbread.” What you’ll need:

• Spray paint in a gingerbread or warm brown color
• Painter’s tape (optional, if you want to mask off the base)

Instructions:

1. Start by cleaning the pot to remove any dust or dirt.
2. If necessary, use painter’s tape to mask off the base of the pot or any parts you don’t want to paint.
3. Hold the spray paint about 12-18 inches away from the pot and apply several thin, even coats. I used a gingerbread color for a warm, inviting feel that perfectly complemented my décor.
4. Allow the paint to dry completely before adding a second or third coat if necessary for an even finish.

Once dry, the pot was a lovely gingerbread shade that fit perfectly with my holiday style.

Step 2: Add Gingerbread “Frosting” Designs

Next, I wanted to add some festive, gingerbread-inspired details to the pot. To do this, I used a white marker to sketch out fun frosting designs like swirls and zigzags. But I didn’t stop there—after sketching, I used white hot glue to create 3-D “frosting” that gave the design some extra dimension and texture. What you’ll need to make this Gingerbread Christmas Tabletop Tree-

• White permanent marker
• White hot glue gun and glue sticks

Instructions:

1. Use the white marker to lightly sketch out your desired frosting designs around the pot.
2. Once you’re happy with the designs, use the hot glue gun to carefully trace over the marker lines, adding texture and dimension to your “frosting.”
3. Allow the glue to cool and harden, giving the pot a beautiful, realistic gingerbread look.

This simple step transformed the pot into a charming, gingerbread-inspired base!

Step 3: Replace the Tree Cones and Add Pinecones

Originally, the tree was covered in red berries, but they were difficult to remove without damaging the cone shape. After much trial and error, I decided to order new cone-shaped trees from Amazon to create a cleaner look. Then, I went to Hobby Lobby and picked up some tiny pinecones to add extra texture and authenticity to the tree. I spray painted the cone the same color as the base as well.                           What you’ll need:

• New cone-shaped trees (I found some on Amazon)
• Small pinecones I got mine at Hobby Lobby but ran short so used a combo of both Hobby Lobby and Amazon
• Hot glue gun and glue sticks
• caramel colored spray paint

Instructions On How To Make This Gingerbread Christmas Tabletop Tree

1. Once the new cones arrived, I attached them to the gingerbread-colored base using hot glue.
2. To give the tree even more of a gingerbread feel, I glued the little pinecones all over the cone, creating a festive, woodland look that perfectly complements the gingerbread theme.

The result? A beautiful, gingerbread-inspired tabletop tree that fits perfectly with my holiday décor and adds a touch of sweetness to my home!

Step 4: Display Your Gingerbread Tree

Once the tree was complete, I placed it amongst my other decor. These would  look gorgeous on a mantel, side table, or as part of a festive vignette. The warm tones of the gingerbread-colored pot, the creamy white “frosting,” and the pinecone details all come together to create a perfect holiday accent.
