Our kitchen refresh is complete!
Well, to be honest, it has been for months now but I am just now finally getting around to sharing it!
HERE IS WHAT WE DID-
We got new cabinet doors and hardware.
Had all the cabinets painted.
Added new backsplash.
Installed new sconces.
Got new barstools.
WHY YOU MIGHT ASK?
While our kitchen appeared presentable in photos, there was a lot of behind the scenes stuff that just wasn’t working.
For example our kitchen cabinet doors. The style was a bit outdated for our taste {we installed them ourselves around 1997} and the doors themselves were not self close and driving us crazy every time they slammed shut.
The backsplash I loved but it was a DIY I did myself years ago and it too was looking pretty shabby.
The hardware on the cabinets was a little early 2000’s and didn’t really go anymore.
We had a desk area also in the kitchen which we were not utalizing so that went as well, and in went wine racks, which we DO utalize!
The sconces and stools weren’t necessary to change but I took this opportunity to switch things up to go with the updated look.
Let’s take a look at the before first:
I did love that it was light and bright so I was a little hesitant to change the cabinet color.
But my husband talked me into it and I am so glad he did.
I think I went through 50 different grey colors before settling on this shade, which turned out to be a custom color.
Here is the after!
Since these photos were taken I have swapped out the sconces once again and I also got a new rug runner that is washable, because that is so important in a kitchen!
All shop-able links will be at the bottom of this page for you.
This is the view standing in the living room looking in.
Instead of replacing all our cabinets which would have been a big undertaking, we chose just to get new doors with soft close construction and a shaker detail.
I did a lot of research and found this place online and within a couple weeks our new cabinet doors were here. I can’t remember the exact total, but it was around $1,500 I want to say. We got the hinges from them as well.
The cabinet hardware was also updated to these brushed nickel ones.
It was tricky finding matching hardware that came in multiple sizes, but these did and I am happy with how they look.
We did get a new faucet too which adds a touch of gold to the kitchen.
It is 100% OK to mix metals!
To me, it keeps things interesting.
Someday I will update the tile in our coffee bar to match the rest, but I will save that for another day.
And here is the beautiful new backsplash on our kitchen surround that was installed by a pro and not me.
I love, love, love the uneven textures and tones of it as it really adds a warmth to the kitchen.
Would you believe it if I told you that bread is fake, ha ha. Yes, I will have the link to that too.
The photo below is the view from the front door looking out into the living room beyond the kitchen.

I had such a hard time picking out new barstools.
I started out buying two super expensive ones to see if I liked them enough to spend the money on two more.
Turns out I didn’t and ended up going with inexpensive ones from Amazon and guess what? We love them!
I did scotch guard the heck out of them but we have had no issues.
The cost for all four was under what less than half of what one of the expensive ones cost.
And here is my beloved wine rack.
This is two actually, one placed on top of the other to fill in up the wall.
I like to keep the counters, especially the island pretty simple.
Usually there is just a vase of flowers on one end.

So there you have it!
The new updates to our kitchen are almost complete.
We desperately need new appliances but we are waiting a bit on those.
