Hello and happy summer!
If you are coming from the Rachael’s blog, This Is Our Bliss, welcome!
Since some of you might be new around here I will give a quick introduction.
We are a family of 4 living near Seattle Washington on a small lake called Crystal Lake.
I am married to my high school sweetheart and we have 2 kids, Savannah who is 20 and Cody who is 16. We have 3 labs, a rabbit, and I am currently trying to talk my husband into chickens.
We bought our house when I was pregnant with Savannah and it was a 900 square foot run down caretakers cottage. We have been picking away at it ever since, making it our own while still keeping with the rustic, laid back, lake lifestyle and look. We aren’t fancy people. You don’t have to take off your shoes, and if you stop by unannounced you will be greeted by very happy 4 legged fur balls.
Let’s get this tour started. I like to stick with a neutral pallet in our home because to me it is just so clean and soothing. It is easy to switch things out like pillows for the holidays to add in a bit of color. But for the most part, white wins in my house, as it is my favorite color!
We are also surrounded by the lake and beautiful mature trees. I like to have nature be the color coming in through the windows.
The walls are painted Simply White by Benjamin Moore throughout most of our main living areas. The ceiling is original to the house. The dining room was an addition and we used the cedar walls in our bedroom to put up here and to flow from the living room which is just off the dining room.
You can see a bit of the living room vertical cedar walls in the pic below, which I painted out with the same color. Painting the ceiling has something I have contemplated but ultimately don’t think I could ever do!
I like to pick fresh flowers from around the yard, but when they aren’t in bloom I just get them at the grocery store. Trader Joes has a great selection year round.
You can read how to diy those “go jump in the lake” letters right here. It was a super fun and quick project that won’t damage your walls.
I like a mix of vintage and modern pieces. For example, this new pot from here sitting on a flea market find.
These chairs are new but still have that relaxed feel to them. They also have the look of RH which I love, but for a lot less money! Our table is from RH and can be found here.
I did find a smaller similar one here.
Bright shiny lacquered pieces from Ikea are juxtaposed with worn woods and raw metals. To me it keeps the look interesting and not so predictable.
Moving onto the master bedroom next. In here I didn’t change out much, I just swapped out our duvet cover for a linen one so now the entire bed is white linen. It’s so comfy and honestly so easy to clean if a dog happens to be let in the bed when I am not looking 🙂
I did get this giant linen pillow which spans the entire bed {which is a queen}
JuJu hat from here. I still want to update the roman shades with white linen ones to match the drapes.
