Quick re-cap before I dive into this post.
We bought this home in 1997 and immediately remodeled the kitchen.
I was 23 at the time and pregnant with Savannah so time was of the essence and funds were limited.
We did a pretty good job with our resources at the time.
In 2014 we did a little facelift to the kitchen which you can read about here.
Our kitchen isn’t bad, but there are things that need updating once again.
For example, when we installed out cabinets, soft close doors were not a thing.
Having our cabinets professionally painted was not in the budget.
So, here we are, 2022 and the paint is chipping on the cabinets, the cabinet doors are not a style we prefer anymore, and the do it yourself tile backsplash has seen better days.
Without spending a fortune we have found a way once again to update the kitchen and here is the plan!
We have ordered new cabinet doors to replace the ones we have now.
After an exhausting search I found this company that will make custom doors for next to nothing.
And the best part, they have soft close hinges!
I went with a shaker style and I think I will do the same paint color which is White Dove.
We will update the cabinet hardware with something a bit larger and more modern.
Possibly something like these, I really haven’t landed on anything yet.
A simple black faucet would replace the chrome one we have now.
I know once all these changes are made I am going to want to update our barstools.
I found my dream stools but they are a bit more than I’d like to spend, so I may have to hold off on those for now.
The backsplash will be updated with something similar to this.
I like the rustic texture and the clean lines.
New lighting is a must for me.
I just need to convince my husband.
I did a round up here of some possible options for island lighting.
Here is a picture of our kitchen currently:
And I did a quick mock up to show what it would look like with the changes:
Stay tuned!

Hi. Would you mind providing the name of the company who is making your cabinet doors? Is it possible for to share the approximate cost for one set of cabinet doors? We are on a tight budget and I’m trying to decide if it’s something I can possibly pursue?

We bought a house with dark fixtures in the master bath. I loved them and within a few short months I now hate them. They always look dirty as they show every water spot and spec of dust. And if you wipe them often enough to make them look clean, the finish starts to rub off. They make me cringe every day.

Good to know!
