I realized recently that I haven’t done an updated paint color list in our home since 2014!
A lot has changed since then, and some has stayed the same.
When we bought our house almost 24 years ago I had some walls that I painted red. {are you in shock right now}
That was also when accent walls were a thing and also back when our living room paneling was unpainted cedar.
In the last 20 years I have added shiplap, painted our vertical cedar in the living room, added wainscoting, and mouldings in some rooms.
All have got new paint.
I even painted all our interior doors black which I love.
Also back in 2014 I painted our kitchen cabinets a lighter color. {which were originally maple}
You can read about our kitchen update here.
I feel like my walls keep getting lighter and lighter.
I crave a crisp clean interior with high contrast, so painting the walls white has helped me achieve that look.
Most of our interior walls are painted Benjamin Moore simply white.
I will say, they have been many shades of white.
Cream, oatmeal, almond……
For our home bright white feels too stark, as I tend to like creamier tones.
Simply White is just that. A warm white that still keeps things bright and clean, but not sterile.
Our kitchen is painted Simply White and the cabinets are Sherwin Williams White Dove.
I love the combination of the two which work well with our carrera marble counters and our black granite island.
Our doors were all originally wood with a clear stain.
Painting them black and adding modern black hardware has really helped update the look to a more modern farmhouse feel.
Cody’s room is painted Sherwin Williams Greek Villa and a custom mix to match an old Martha Stewart paint called Seal.
Recently I had the ceiling painted the dark grey as well for a moody masculine look.
The ceilings in his bedroom are high and it creates a cozy feeling.
One of the most asked questions I get is about our dark master bedroom walls.
If it feels too dark?
I think the wainscoting helps to break up the dark color, as well as the light bed and bedding.
Benjamin Moore graphite is a fabulous color!
I was a little nervous while I was painting, but I don’t think I’ll ever go with a different color.
I will say, I have had friends use it and in certain light it can read very blue. Almost a deep navy.
In our room it reads more of a true black.
I cannot for the life of me remember the color of the bottom half but it is similar to Greek Villa by Sherwin Williams.
Not pictured is our master bathroom which is painted Seapearl by Benjamin Moore.Â
It is a super light grey that almost reads white.
Our basement/mud room is painted a bright white.
It has a very rustic yet classic feel with the rough shiplap walls.
Savannah’s room is Classic Gray by Benjamin Moore.
It is a great neutral and I mixed it with horizontal wood to add some texture.
In our living room, I finally talked my husband into painting over the wood walls, as long as I left the ceilings natural.
What a difference!
The room took on a whole new look from shabby to chic and I do not regret that decision for a second.
The living room and dining room are open creating one big great room, so I continued the Simply white in here as well.
And finally, in our office, I continued the Simply White, as I had used it enough to know it’s such a great color and one I knew I couldn’t go wrong with.
For walls I like to use either eggshell or satin.
For ceilings I like to use flat.
For trim I like satin, as well as for doors.
I rarely use semi gloss anymore as it looks too shiny and dated.
I will say however, I use semi gloss in clients homes if they want it on trim and millwork.
But for my own home, I prefer satin on trim and millwork.
I hope you found this helpful!

Thanks for sharing your paint colors! Wondering if your trim is the same color as your walls or if you use a different white?

Great question as I forgot to add this! For trim I just use white straight off the shelf, no pigment added!

Thanks-Appreciate it!
